SYNOD OFFICE TEAM

SUSAN DRANE - Receptionist & Secretary

Sue keeps our website up to date and is responsible for our day to day communication within the Synod. She will usually answer the phone if you ring: 01223 830770 but it will help if you know who you want to speak to. E-mail is now used wherever possible but if your church really still needs papers posted we will try our best not to leave you out.  Sue is the office typist/secretary and will provide secretarial support for 'advocates' when requested. Please contact Sue to book the Conference Room should you need it or arrange for documents to be copied. Sue also looks after the Synod Gas Contract.

PAUL WHITTLE - Moderator

As Moderator Paul deals with a range of matters pertaining to ministers and churches i.e. the candidating process, pastoral matters, deployment and vacancies.

Paul is also closely involved with all ecumenical matters and
links with the wider church.

LINDA HACK - Moderator's PA

Linda is PA to the Moderator, keeping the Moderators diary and thus she is the person you need if you want to invite the Moderator to your church or talk to the Moderator on issues of pastoral concern. Linda is also the Candidating Secretary, she maintains the Synod database and is responsible for the Yearbook. Linda also supports the Training Team

PETER BALL - Training & Development Officer

Peter joined the team on January 1st having been a Minister in our Synod. The TDO role is unchanged. The work of the TDO is to stimulate and encourage growth within the local churches and Elder's meeting. The TDO organises the provision of post-ordination and in-service education and training for Ministers. He will work closely with the Moderator and the CYDO and be accountable to the Synod Pastoral Committee.

HENRY PLAYLE - Children's & Youth
                                                 Development Officer

Henry continues as our CYDO, a role he has held for 12 years. Henry will also be accountable to the Synod Pastoral Committee and work closely with both Peter and the Moderator. The CYDO works with churches promoting, encouraging, supporting and developing existing work and exploring new ways of engaging with children and young people.

PENELOPE DAVIES-BROWN - Resources Officer

Penelope MarriottAs the Resources Officer, Penelope should be your first point of contact for all new enquiries for Finance and Property matters.  This is a new role created to meet the increasingly detailed support needs for Finance and Property, replacing the previous secretarial role, and Penelope will also be managing the Synod Manse Scheme on a day to day basis.

ANDREW PERKINS - Finance Officer

Andrew is the Finance and Trust Officer of both the Synod and the Trust Companies. He is also Company Secretary for the four Trust Companies and serves as the Office Manager for the Synod office. Andrew manages all the Synod’s financial and Trust affairs using computer based systems and the Resources Officer helps to keep these systems working when Andrew is out of the office.  Andrew also has responsibility for Sharing Agreements and office insurance.

GORDON HEALD - Property Officer

Gordon continues as Property Officer, a part time role that has grown but now has support from the Resources Officer. Gordon hopes to have Property Advocates in all the Area Partnerships who will help him at the local church level.
Gordon  urges churches to ensure that contact is made with the Resources Officer in the early stages of planning any building alterations or tenancies and leases.

MICK BARNES - Synod Clerk

The relationship of the Clerk to the churches of the Synod is parallel to that of a Church Secretary to the congregation.
The Clerk co-operates with all the activities of Synod to enable the witness of the local church.  The Clerk promotes networking within the Synod and Mick’s role includes:-

  • arrangements for Synod meetings

  • the constitutional structures of the Synod and its committees

  • nominations for Synod appointments and delegations,
    and

  • being the channel through which the different groupings within the Synod share information, including concern for the Synod Office
