Working with the Elderly

Resources for working with the Elderly and in Residential or Care Homes

For some time now Methodist Homes have been among the leaders in how to offer spiritual care of the Elderly. Books such as Older People and the Church by Albert Jewell who was senior chaplain of Methodist Homes for many years and Spirituality and Ageing edited by Albert were books that helped people take the issues of aging seriously. They also challenged churches to understand the rich experience that older people bring to the life of the church. Over the last ten years Methodist Homes have continued to employ people with a rich experience of working with the elderly, of bereavement issues, of life in residential homes and of dementia and the issues associated with it for the individual and their families.

Peter has produced some resources in association with Methodist Homes for use in URC churches as well as the Matters of Life and Death Focus Booklet. We offer here the link to Methodist Homes where you can find out more about them as well as access worship materials. These may be useful for those who lead worship in residential homes or want to look at the pastoral issues of being visitors to care homes.
